Hi everyone! Just got this HG torch a few days back. It was only yesterday that I discovered its skeleton seems like it’s rotting and the brown/purple patch is spreading from its base? I have torch and hammer corals around it and they seem fine.

I did use TM’s iodine dip before putting it into my display tank.

Any idea what is purple/brown patch that is spreading? And will it spread to my other corals??? Help!! Thanks!

Do you have a photo under white light? Is it on the rock to, or just the torch?

I have seen users post decaying skeletons before. Normally it's low alk/calcium issues. But torches hate that to begin with and usually bail.

So, I am curious on what is going on.

Most of the time, we remove the infected skeleton and seal the healthy portion. I don't believe there is any effective skeletal treatment other than removal.

I attached it to a rock. I pulled it out yesterday and managed to scrap the brownish-purple stuff off the Skeleton. Searched the web but can’t seem to find similar post.

Sorry shouldn’t take a clearer image before scrapping 😅

Asked a LFS, he said it might be sponge???? Don’t remember SpongeBob looking like that 🤣
Did it feel spongy? There are more than 10K species of sponges.
