Hello, I have two Ai Nero’s and they are connected to my Mobius App on my iPhone. They had worked flawlessly up until an about a month ago. My 1st Nero 5 is completely fine and works just fine. The problem was when I Began having power outages due to the fires in California where I’m at. What’s wrong with is that after all of the power outages the power head never turned back on. I didn’t notice until I saw my Midas blenny chilling inside of the power head. Well crap. So I took the pump apart and gave it a THOUROUGH cleaning. Citric acid the whole nine yards but everything was completely dissembled in the solution. I put everything back together as how it was before it stoped working. I put it back in the tank after rinsing it in son RODI water. Plugged it back in and then nothing happened. The blenny came back and sat in the pump. SMH. So I took the pump out and put it in a bucket of water to fix it. I looked at the controller and the light was off but a flashing red light. Ok error code, no biggie so I looked on the manual and followed the instructions to a T. No luck. Tried again 20 mins later. No luck. The problem here that I bought them both used so I’m way past warranty. I had to pivot and put my secondary power head in the place of my Nero 5 that broke. I cannot control the flow and it’s on or off lol. I spent 3 hours digging in my stand and was pretty frustrated by the end. The family’s WiFi modem box was FRIED as a result of the outage and messed up the wifi often. At school I would get alerts from my Sicce control all app saying the wifi is out. Should I call Aqua Illumination to see what’s up? This is odd because the first nero was fine post outage but not the 2nd one. Did the power outage fry the controller? I think not because I switched power supply’s and the normal Nero 5 worked just fine. I switched them back after that experiment. When I would reboot the pump through Mobius it would spin to life for a half second and then turn off. I went with a chopstick and poked at the blades ONCE to see if it just needed a nudge. Nothing. Now what? I’ve tried anything unless there’s something I missed? I’m considering going for a 4k GPH Gyre instead for my tank + the Nero 5. I’ve lost almost all my SPS/Hard corals but my hammer coral is almost fully split into 2 heads so ig I can’t complain too much loll.
Thanks!!!

Switch the dead with the living and see if it returns to life? If not then I think you should put it back and use it for blenny habitat.

Kind of sounds like a power surge took it’s life, at least the blenny is still alive.

I’ll try again with switching power supplys but I can’t keep the broken pump in there just got the blenny haha, if this thing dosent work then I’ll probably just buy maxxpect jump gyre @4,263(?) GPH w/ controller for like 190

So switching power supply’s did not work and it flicked once and then didn’t try and come back on

It is finished. RIP.
Really? I clicked “reboot” on my Mobius app and then it tried to go and then it stopped. Started again and then stopped. Is it truly done for? It still has some life left in it in the sense that it’s trying to work but can’t.

Mine does this sometimes and I often end up taking it apart again and making sure everything sets properly. I would try taking it apart again, then plug in and off multipl times and see if it catches.

Like take the impeller out then put it back on while still powered? My last attempt is soaking the impeller housing. The actual motor part in 100% vinegar but just the housing part. It’s bubbling like crazy and the problem might just be that there’s calcium deposits in the housing. If still notbibg then I might as well toss it

Clean out the teal impeller, pull it right off the axle and make sure the rubber part is cleaned on the end. Then try running it without the screw on front piece on in a bucket or container with water.

I doubt it’s truly dead, I think it’s jammed. Who knows for sure tho.

I’m sitting on the floor with the whole motor + impeller soaking in what little vinegar I have. I’m having to fend off my cats who are WAY too interested. Anyways I have a few mins left on my timer for soaking

You got a brush too to get into the cavity on the back on the impeller? I once found a starfish in mine lol
I have this 2mm Allen key I’m loosening the calcium deposits on. Then there’s this tiny flat head screwdriver that I’m also using too to loosen stuff

Any luck?

I basically followed this and can always get mine going again. I think the fact that it’s blinking red and not just dead is a good sign.

I’m actually gettting somewhere now. I had it soak for 30 in vinegar then 10 in lemon juice and then 30 more in vinegar. After every soak it starts to work a bit better. I run high calcium in my tank and that’s probably the culprit here

Oh, I thought it was squeaky clean from the first dip, but I was wrong. I don’t use vinegar anymore, I use pool acid (but I don’t have cats.).

I lowered my parameters to more natural levels because I got tired of cleaning pumps and impellers from the calcium deposits.

The problem I found with sticking impellers is that the magnets suffered after repeated impeller jams.
