All,
Need some help deciding how to finish stocking my tank.

Reefer 250 mixed reef.

Current fish list.
- Biota CB Yellow Tang
- 2x blue chromis
- Ora CB black ice
- Ora CB black and white oce
- Ora CB orchid dottyback
- Biota Bangaii Cardinal

I'd like to add 2 or maybe 3 more fish.
Goby? Wrasse? Firefish? Anthia or 2?

I have my eye on a potters angel but have terrible luck with dwarf angels being aggressive or nipping polyps.

What do we think?

There's almost always room for a goby.

Wrasse, depending on which one, would be okay. What are you looking at? The dottyback may give it a little trouble.

I would avoid the timid firefish, because of the relatively aggressive tankmates you already have.

I wouldn't recommend anthias for a Reefer 250

Goby is definitely on the list.

I have never owned a wrasse and there are so many options not sure where to start. My dottyback has been very peaceful so far. And your not the first one to recommend staying away from anthias so for now anthia is off the list.

Best wrasses would be:
The smallest fairy wrasses, like Lubbock's and yellow fin
Most flashers, especially the more common McCosker's, carpenter's, etc.
The possum or pink streaked, but that last group might be too wimpy.

If you have sand, then you might be able to get away with the smallest in the Halichoeres genus, like chrysus (yellow "coris") or leucoxanthus or biocellatus.

I have a very thin layer of crushed coral with some of the tank being bare bottom. The Lubbock's and McCosker will have to be seriously considered. I have never owned a wrasse other than a 6 line who was an absolute terror so trying to make the right decision.

You think I stop with the addition of a Goby and a wrasse? I am in no rush.

I would stay away from the firefish unless you are getting rid of the dottyback. Stear clear of the Potter's angel (not sure you can find them since the Hawaii ban). I have had 2 that did great for a few months, eating like pigs, then one day I found them dead. Many people have had the same result.

I like the idea of a wrasse. And one other fish. Maybe a Swiss guard or Starcki damsel.

Interesting you say that. I had a similar experience with a flame angel years back but assumed it was aggression.

Another thing to consider about the gobies is that some of them dump sand over everything. Something to consider if you plan on having scolys, trachys, or plates on the sand bed.
