If your main intent for it is household repairs and other 'heavy work' then a Dremel is probably the way to go. But if you think you'll be using it more for finer detail hobby related work then you may want to consider a Proxxon.
I've used both for all types of hobby related stuff ranging from plastic model kit and diorama building to straight razor restoration and jewellery repair - and I find the narrower neck/grip of the Proxxon to be much more comfortable and accommodating when being held and handled for fine detail jobs.
And it can also hold it's own quite well for the occasional household repair job as well.
Only drawback to it is that their are slightly fewer attachments made for it (e.g. plunge-router attachments, etc.).
