Help me understand

it's my understanding that GHA is typically Bryopsis ("GHA" is something of a catch-all term, i believe). what is turf algae? (i think, in the hobby at least, "turf algae" is also something of a catch-all term).

GHA, green hair algae, is different from bryopsis. My experience is that over time, manual removal of GHA + herbivores will get rid of it. When I say "over time", I mean it could be weeks. It could be months. GHA is slimy to the touch and often has to be removed with a toothbrush. If you remove with water changes, brush the GHA off first and suck up what you can with your hose. Let the remainder float around until it ends up in your socks or other mechanical filtration and then clean your socks or whatever. Doing this physically removes the GHA, exports nutrients, and creates tasty new growth for your herbivores to munch on.

Bryopsis is a different animal. It feels more rigid and to me looks like tiny ferns. Removal makes it worse, and the only thing I had success with was multiple Fluconzole treatments. It dies with every treatment but then comes back, often in different areas. I found that starting the next treatment quickly after seeing it again seems to work best as far as keeping it away.
