The starfish and lettuce slug are not appropriate for a nano. They will starve/die over time. It is a waste of money and life.

Otherwise you just need to buy RODI water or you can use gallons of distilled water and mix your own water.

Using tap is probably creating that cyano which can smother and kill corals.

I would love to have the hanna checkers but they are not in my budget. Ive been really wanting some type of coral like torch coral , hammer coral, or a frogspawn my family loves the idea of having anemones with clowns but im not ready for that so i think those look the most like them. Funny how you said that i got 2 neon hermits today. The only reason i was thinking about getting a star fish was to eat all my red algae and return it to my fish store. Ive been wanting xenia since i first saw them. I think they are beautiful and the pulsing is amazing i plan to keep it in its own ‘island’ so i wouldnt grow over my other corals.
I chose a hammer coral instead of an anemone, and my clown loves it. I have heard that some people get an anemone specifically for their clownfish, and the clown decides to host with something else.

I know a that clowns host random corals are common and sometimes the corals dont like all the movements. Im probably look for a hammer that looks somewhat like a torch coral.

I’d say it’s possible to just run to your LFS for all your water if you have a tank less than 60 gallons.

I ended up buying a high end RODI system and soon became frustrated. I find works best for me was stackable water jugs at Walmart.com bought like 11 of them and I just run to the LFS once a month. For your system 4 would be plenty.

I’m there and back in 30 mins. No baby sitting and RODI system that’s rated at 100 gallons day which takes a hour + to fill one 5 gallon bucket.

I also in the past ran water out of my local super markets RO system, it’s way better than tap but it’s still not as good as the RODI water at your fish store.

I think ive made my decision as what i should add/do with this tank. Im going to get some test kits and some more filteration like phoguard, perigen, and a bioblock. I also want to get a coral dip and soem test kits. Ill go to LFS to chang my water and then i plan on adding.

A clown goby
Cleaner shrimp
Pom pom xenia
Frogspawn
Hammer coral
Torch coral
Ricordea florida mushroom
Blue clovers polys
Lavender mushroom

I would really like to have frogspawn, hammer, and torch coral all together on their own rock. I dont think ill be able to have all of that but those are the livestock ive narrowed it down too. What do you guys think???[emoji3166][emoji2955][emoji848]

I personally would start with the mushrooms and paly's. Just make sure to put the palys on their own rock island or they can over take all your rock work. I think the goby would be fine since he will hang low in the tank, it probably won't cause the clowns to get to aggressive. I've never had frogspawn or torch or hammers so not sure about their compatibility but it seems like your doing your research so just be careful. Maybe set them far enough apart that if they don't like the neighbors you can move them with minimal damage before they nuke each other.

If you are looking into a good nano tank look at the Nuvo series from innovative marine ! Keep in mind they can get pricey after some of the equipment upgrades. But they are great quality and look amazing. Lol I bought a Nuvo 30gallon long shallow reef tank and after all the bells and whistles the equipment alone cost me 3500 but you don’t need to buy all high end equipment haha could still easily do a great nano tank for a lot less
Lol. 3500 is more than I have into my 75. I am going to use a 29 I picked up on the street for free ( water tested alright but I'll still cut out the seal and redo it). I'll use the 20 I used for qt as a sump and fuge. A cascading set of two socks, small reef octo skimmer, diy carbon and gfo reactors using PVC and syncra pumps, biopure block, caeto and pods, with a black box led unit and dual t5 from petco. Hydor power head and another successful pump for return.

I know frogspawn, hammers, torch are the same species and they dont mind each other. Sometimes they combine and make a coral hybrid but they sting other corals so i would have to put them on there own separate rock. My only thing is how im going to set up my rocks so i can have the polys in their own rock, xenia in their own rock, and the euphyllia in their own rock. Probably have the xenia in a small rock in the sand bed. 2 islands in the side of the tank and a bigger island in the middle (sorry if that doesnt make sense)

Glad you joined us. The red stuff is cyano and should be lightly siphoned and aim powerhead down a little to disturb the ability to stick to gravel and reduce whites if you can

Sicce pump**** ( I hate auto correct)
lol yea I spent a lot on my tank because I bought all top of the line stuff , my two gen4 xr15 Radion lights with the mounts ended up be 1k, along with echo tech Vortech mp10 wireless powerhead 300 and the vectra s1 return pump was another 300, then the display tank 350 and stand 350, then media reactor, media basket, ato system, protein skimmer, and dosing pump it all adds up. had it 3 months already 5500 into it if not more with all the live stock and corals and what not.

Yeah.... I would like to because you definitely get what you pay for in this hobby, that's a fact. Unfortunately I have Don Julio taste and Jose cuervo funds. I'm learning how to diy to keep this hobby moving forward. If only I found out how much I love fish/reef keeping before I stretched myself so thin( house, new cars, children etc., etc.) That said,,, wouldn't change a thing.

I wanna start reefing. Starting simple with some xenia, torch coral, some softies and leather coral. I have a 10 gal nano and i would like to add another fish to it. I thinking about upgrading to a 32 gallon sometime in the future but this is going to do for now. I have 2 clownfish and 5 crabs and thats it. I need help on getting these supplies i need at a cheap price as i dont have a job yet. This is what my tank looks like at the moment and some corals/fish im going to do some research on see if they are a right fit for my tank.
