Copepods and great creatures to see in your tank. They’ll lessen in population over time as the tank settles and you add fish which eat them
What a relief, I was pretty worried for a second thereFree food/clean up crew. They mostly come out at night. My wife freaked out when she saw the the first time![]()
Thank you!I don’t see copepods (maybe a couple) or amphipods in the picture. Imo these are isopods they are a lot bigger than most copepods. There a few parasitic types, but the ones you have are normal and very healthy for your tank. Their number will go down as your detritus and “leftovers” are being consumed. They self-regulate population and your fish can use them as a snack! They are often seen in population explosions when the tank is being overfed or new.
Thank you!Feed live phytoplankton once in awhile and ~monthly or so add a bottle of live copepods to sustain the population. Fish like mandarins and dragonets will eat thousands per day to stay healthy. It's a great sign to see them and means you are doing something right!
