Last night I added a quarantined, flame angel, and a sailfin tang to my 210 gallon system. I have had success in the past. Putting dwarf angels together in smaller systems However, I think I have a problem and I don’t want to break this tank down because it’s full of 200 pounds of rock and coral. The flame angel has been harassed all day by a pygmy angel. Lots of hiding spaces. The pygmy was added a few months ago when there is was only an Eibli in the tank. The flame angel is hanging out at the top by the power head where no one is bothering him, but he’s already shown signs of being attacked with frayed fins. The sailfin has been harassed by my powder Brown and a little bit by a purple tang . Neither the flame or sailfin have tried to eat yet. They both did well in seven weeks of quarantine.

I have placed mirrors at both ends and now the powder Brown has been attacking his reflection for about eight hours. The sailfin is a little bit more comfortable in the tank, and swimming about a little bit but the flame angel has been pinned in the upper corner of the tank behind the safety of the powerhead.

Does anybody have experience with pygmies and flames together? Should this cool down Or will he pick him to death?

Also, I’m hoping that my tang gang will settle down as time goes on

I could possibly place a piece of egg crate in the tank and separate the two fish, but that would be a lot of work, but I can do it if necessary.

Looking for a less drastic suggestion if anyone has any thanks a lot. The pygmy is about the same size as the flame and both are “dwarfed” by the eibli . The eibli showed aggression towards the pygmy when he was first introduced a few months ago, but largely leaves him alone now. So I was somewhat surprised to see the Pygmy become aggressive after he had been chased around by the eibli when first introduced months ago

I had a coral beauty go after a flame angel after being together for a year in a 7ft tank with a lot of rock. The flame was severely damaged by the time I was able to catch it and it died from injuries. It was my first time mixing dwarf angels and now I know why it isn't recommended.

It’s crazy because in my 120 I have a coral beauty and a flame and a very large bicolor . The bi color(which was added years ago.). will go after the flame coral beauty but there’s total harmony 99% of the time. I guess it’s hit and miss. My new flame angel ate tonight that I just put into my 210.

I saw an old thread where a pigmy and flame did not get along and they called it death by 1000 cuts and that just totally made me sick

He’s hanging out at the top by the powerhead. If he’s there tonight, I might be able to net him and see if I can get him back to my LFS I would hate to see him die because of my hopes that he would be compatible in my tank

Well, I “fished out” my flame angel, who was getting pummeled by my dwarf pygmy. Lesson learned. I was cocky. In the past I’ve successfully put dwarfs together in three different fish tanks. Now I know why they make recommendations, like one dwarf per tank. The penalty….my wife loves the flame even more than I do so I will be investing in a brand new tank for my new flame angel. Go 🐠 🐟
