Help with ID please??

Can anyone tell me what this is on my GSP. Looks like a blackish ball seems soft but kind of spongey. Sorry for the not so great pictures the only camera I have is one my phone.

It's a tunicate.

Good or bad? Will it hurt the gsp?

No, it's fine. If ever you don't like how it's growing, you can just pull it off. The mats of GSP are a nutrient rich place , and the tunicates are taking advantage of that.
