Help with new protein skimmer

Hi Guys I have almost finished setting up my 120 gallon reef tank. I have no experience with protein skimmers. My new eshopps S-200 is overflowing like crazy.

Tried to adjust air intake but keeps on overflowing. Not sure what to do. The skimmer is just within the required water level.

Any help much is much appreciated.

This is part of the normal break in for a skimmer. All skimmers do it. Just keep it running and do what you can to manage the overflow and within 48 hrs it should be fine.

Since your tank is new, probably don't need a skimmer yet, but may be helpful as far as PH. The skimmer may be reacting to something you put in the water, ie; dechlorinator with a conditioner for fish, etc. Just let it run like that until things break down in your water.

While it's breaking in, you can take the drain plug off the bottom of the cup and run a hose back down to the water. It won't fix anything, but you won't have to listen to water overflowing either.

All of the above are possible reasons, but in addition you might want to try verifying that it is in the correct depth of water based on the manufacturers suggestions. The water level may just be too deep for it at which point you may need to lower the water level in the skimmer section or raise the skimmer up onto a stand.

What was just said above, its almost certainly not at the correct depth which is crucial for it to work properly.

I like to leave it wide open for a week or so then start to slowly tune it. All part of the break in period
