I’m trying to decide on a slimmer for a new 335gal build. I have narrowed it down to 2 RO models. The 250int and the 300int. According to brs the 250 is a little under powered for this size tank and the 300 might be a little big. With the current ideas of low nitrates and phosphates are better than the old ideas of 0 readings, I want good performance but don’t really want to strip the water completely either. What are your thoughts?

Get the 300, you can dial pump speed down 5 4 3 2 1, which will make it produce less foam if you think it is stripping the water.

Get a lifereef skimmer. You can get a Periha pump to run it which is quiet and uses less electric. That skimmer will never be outdated.

The 300INT is not going to be too big for 335 gallons. A protein skimmer does not strip ALL of the nutrients from your water. It is just one of the tools used for nutrient export. It doesn't do everything for you. If your skimmer is stripping everything from the water in a tank that big then you probably didn't have enough nutrients to begin with. If you have the space for it, go ahead and get the 300. I would rather have to dial it down than not be able to dial it up enough.

I recently upgraded the skimmer on my tank. I also have a CO2 scrubber. My PH rose from 8.3 to 8.5 (daily high) as a result of a bigger skimmer with more air draw. You may not be concerned about low PH, but it turned out to be a bigger problem for me than I thought. I’m really happy now with extra coral growth.
