Heniochus

Picked up a heniochus butterfly yesterday which is now in quarrantine. I am aware there are a couple of varieties and most stores don't specify which one they are selling just the common name. Can someone ID it? I don’t have any fancy or expensive corals I just have the weedy stuff like Xenia and GSP, so if it isn’t the reef safe type I don’t really care. Also, I noticed the dorsal fine is very short compared to google images. Is it because it is a female or is it because it is very young, or both?

The differences can be subtle— so you might need a photo more like this. A lot of telling them apart has to do with things like the color bands. Bands at the eye, bands at the tip of the lips, slight differences in the fins, etc.

Looks like acuminatus. The anal fin on diphruetes forms more if a right angle with the tail, and is usually split evenly black and white. Yours is mostly black and at an acute angle with the tail.

The dorsal fin, or streamer, is easily damaged in shipping or with handling.

It doesn’t look like an acuminatus to me (The band isn’t separated by a white band before it hits yellow).
