Hewbie is swimming upside down!

Do a small amount of water vacuuming enough to get that tank cleaned out as much as possible. This way if it does poop, you stand a better chance of getting a sample.

It is actually was already a clean/sterile bin I just put him in yesterday! So I am 99% confident it is. But if it is negative or not poop I can always take another one to them.

It was not a clean capture! And I actually just talked to them they aren’t 100% confident it actually is poop! They want me to wait to get a clean capture! Just one issue I don’t have all the time in the world to sit and wait for Hewbie to poop! I mean as much as I spend hours watching him!🤦🏻‍♀️
Is Hewbie anal retentive?

Depends.
😎

This is an amazing testament to the dedication of one fish keeper who participates in the community.

Sometimes you folks are beyond words!

A few seconds of this for the next week! He recovered from it very quickly and is now out and about swimming! I have to say he is looking and acting a lot better!

I’ve seen Hewbie in the tank many times in pictures, but with her hand holding Hewbie, the thing looks like a small flathead catfish. He’s a big boy/girl 😅

Me and water have not been doing well today. At 3 am the toilet clogged and back flowed and I didn’t know, Hewbie’s siphon kept going out of his bin when I was trying to set up the filter. I left the house and half of his bin was all over the basement floor! And now my RODI connection popped out and I didn’t notice. So I flooded 3 rooms in my house and nearly every towel is soaking/being cleaned. I saved two for my shower!😂

He is my big boy! At least he is a boy to me I will probably never know. It can be super difficult to sex them even on ultrasound/ct scan which I already knew. But according to the vet unless the reproductive organs are actually developed and positioned in just the right spot for the imaging or they have eggs. Sexing them even with imaging is difficult and usually not possible. That makes me sad because I really wanted to know when I took him to the vet lol. So unless he meaning she gets fat and releases eggs. But Hewbie will always be my big boy!❤️

I’m so glad to come back to now page 8 and see good news! You have amazing dedication and I’m super impressed you were able to find good local help. Keep us updated! Still praying!

Thank you! I definitely will!

Can we take a moment to talk about his teeth/beak?😳 They are finger breakers for sure and I keep them very short with lots of shelled foods he also loves to bite at and break the rock.🤦🏻‍♀️ And I can attest his bite hurts. Thankfully it hasn’t happened in a few years because I can’t imagine being bitten by him at his current size now.

The anatomy of Hewbie according to ChatGPT!

Hewbie has an ovary? Only ChatGPT could come up with this kind of hallucination.

(That's an amazing disection image- I lost my appetite- 3 floods beat my best one day record! )

They tested his poop it was negative for parasites! They want me to take another one in the event it was a false negative/not poop. However, I don’t know what it could have been lol. It is just him in the bin, a heater, and an airstone!

You shall become known as the poop watcher…. 😆

I’m around my tanks so much I eventually see them poop. But if that’s not a possibly it can be hard get a fresh sample.

Somehow and this isn’t surprising but the bin water had an instant/no cycle partially because it has tank water and I added a few additives like bacteria and a drop or two of Prime so there would be no ammonia just in case. I may add some StressGuard as well. But still unsure of that as I don’t want to over medicate him. Still monitoring for all important parameters! He seems to be himself again.❤️🐡 And his color is back! However, I am seeing a few minor marks and what looks like scratches on his I think this is from having to take him to the vet the other day and being transferred from multiple containers and him being upside down.

He's looking a lot better - go Hewbie!!!

I would suggest that you carefully monitor his ammonia, there's really very few nitrifying bacteria in the water itself (they mostly populate surfaces like rock and sand), and Prime is NOT effective at mitigating elevated ammonia, as is stated on the bottle. Just please be careful 🙂

Others would know for sure, but I believe StressGuard is more or less just aloe vera 🙃

Wishing you both the best of luck!

I am doing that as well! I just tested and none. I will say the monitor is showing a slight amount. However, as Jay and others have mentioned numerous times it measures free ammonia which is different than total ammonia.

As long as it’s below 0.5 free ammonia (almost certainly way way below that) you’re good 👍

Hewbie ate his first shrimp and didn’t go belly up! Go Hewbie! Go Hewbie! Go Hewbie!☺️ I think I need to order the other food online my lfs has been on back order with the crab clusters for like 2 months. Ugh. I must say I missed him spitting and coming to the top of tank to greet me. It makes me so happy he is doing better.
