Looking for suggestions for an encruster of some kind for my overflow. I have a toothless, coast to coast glass overflow on one side of the tank that always just looks gross as film algae grows on the otherside of the glass. It would be nice to grow something there. That said, it'll have quite a decent bit of flow and light. I'm also just starting to dabble with sps so ease, and high growth rate are important as well. Anyone got any suggestions?

A monti and maybe a stylo/digi would be a great place to start. These are very hardy and would only die out on catastrophic swings which keeping these alive will establish your husbandry and routine.

Cyphastrea! Super fast growers, not very picky about lighting and come in a myriad of colors.

Cyphastreas look amazing everywhere, sadly they are getting more expensive. At least where I live.

Crappy pics not in order but you should see whats going on

Porites on top, stylocoeniella oval center holding it's own, below left small ppe cyphastrea losing to meteor shower, right more porites, right edge hard to see freak hair leptoseris(not a lepto) with a lepto below it both holding there own slow grower compared to other garbage 20250318_214614.jpg

Leptoseris plates out and could shade coral below slow grower. Green encrusting monti losing the battle. Porites on top another not so good idea 20250318_214626.jpg

Cyphastria psammocora back glass, psammo holding its own. Cyphastrea not good idea, encrusts over most other corals and if makes it to the rockwork will be trouble 20250318_214648.jpg

Leptastrea is another option that looks cool and grows moderate
Sunset monti looks good until it grows out as does the rainbow. Several different montis look good together and usually encrust over each other with out chemical warfare

Wierd post hope it helps

Couple lepto slow grower 20250318_214558.jpg

Rainbow monti, starts to platea little on edges and can be broken off or parts scraped off with a razor blade, mystic sunset monti was all removed up top as that was another fast growing nightmare

Is that camera on drugs?

This hobby is increasingly getting more of a scam as days go by.
There are countries in Europe paying twice what I pay for nubs of "low end" corals like validas and common millies.
You sure its a hobby?

an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure.

Nothing pleasurable about getting but fondled for a nub
Is that camera on drugs?
sure looks 6 months earlier

GSP for me. I've found some encrusters like cyphastrea almost impossible to remove if needed. I had a large one on the bottom that died and I basically had to chisel the skeleton off. I thought the glass was going to break.
