My gold spotted rabbitfish has had cloudy eyes since I got him in 2014. I didn’t see it in the lfs but definitely was there after acclimation. I thought it was because of something I did wrong so I committed to him that I would take good care of him from that time forward.
Now he’s close to 10” and he made it through my tank neglectful stage. He’s pretty big for my 120g tank but I don’t think I can rehome him because he looks blind. He does have vision but I think it’s very limited. I just started PraziPro today now that I’ve researched and understand that it’s probably flukes.
Now I’m rededicated to my tank and it has a few problems. #1. Algae seems to be a turf type. I turned off my lights for about 10 days and reordered test kits cuz. Mine expired. Found out my nitrates were sky high, around 200 ppm. In the meantime I hooked up my GFO and ran it nonstop for 2 weeks till my tank got cloudy from the breakdown down of media. Well I got that off line and of course my phosphate is 0.000 per Hanna checker and 0.02 on Red Sea. I have an in sump refugium that’s relatively young, a good working protein skimmer, U/V sterilization, lots of aged live rock, bio balls in the sump and it’s a bare bottom tank.
SpG 1.024,
temp 79.4f,
ca++ 640ppm,
Magnesium 1200ppm
dKH 8.0/2.86 mEq
DK (Red Sea) 10.25 down from 11.5 last week because I stopped dosing with B Ionic
PH 7.8 at 78 degrees
I am dosing N03P04X daily.
Question- what am I missing? I’ve been working on nitrate reduction since 6/1.
What is the group’s experience with cloudy eye?

my experience with a Gold Lined rabbit fish from a captive bred source is that it has a refractive "glassy" pupil and has since day one. seems to see just fine - certainly eats like he sees where the algae is

even though he came from captive source, he was quarantined for 2 weeks FWIW

have seen other CB Rabbits in LFS's with similar pupil

glad you are following up with the care and good luck with stabilizing
