Hitchhiker - Pincushion?

Just saw a creature in my 170 I didn't put in there. Looks like a Pincushion? Would have come from a live rock, most likely Gulf Live Rock. So it would have spent a couple of months in a Brute bucket, no heater, and made it.

Interesting.... I only saw it under the blue lighting (already sundown), so hard to tell. Hopefully I'll catch him in the daylight hours tomorrow!

My guess is a rock boring urchin.

I got 100lbs of TBS in June. They told my it was the season for juveniles. I have donated 12. Three are left in the tank.
They grow fast.

I am no biologist, but yours look very similar if not identical to mine when they were that size. Mine have long, purple spines.

They may still come out! These were in a bucket with no heater for a couple months. The a few weeks in the tank before I saw them.

Last night I did see what I thought was a dead sponge but is starting to fluoresce in small areas so maybe I'll get something yet. Surprises are one of the things I enjoy about ocean live rock.

I have one of these too from my live rock... they grow so fast! It was so tiny I couldn't tell it was an urchin, and now it's about the size of a quarter. They are very cool imo!
