Interesting red coral(?) growing on the side of this plug.. the polyps resemble montipora but there is no skin between polyps.. what is it?

monti would be plate of encrusting. Polyps would be small and a different color. Looks like a shroom to me. Any way to get a pic from the side with white lights.

Hard to see any details of the polyps . I was going to say a zoa till you said looked like montipora polyp. There are some anemone like polyps similar to a ball anemone that can have polyps like a monti. But if can get a clearer shot of the polyps, preferably under white light :)

If it wasn't clear I'm talking about the red thing, not the (micro) zoanthid growing on top. I'll try for a better pic tomorrow.

interesting.. I have cyphastrea elsewhere in my tank and the polyps are much more widely spaced and there is a green skin between. When this thing closes up at night there is a coral skeleton visible with septae etc..
