I tried one of my AquaMaxx's on our 29g BioCubes thinking it would be overkill, but the added sponge from them, I had no bubbles. So, I left it on ever sense. I put the skimmer intake tube in the first chamber then the output goes next door to the second chamber. By doing so, I don't have a need for a mechanical filter.

I also ran the AquaMaxx ConeS HOB Protein Skimmer for a couple of years and it did a really good job.

Since I havea 46 gallon tank, I am either going to do the AquaMaxx or the Reef Octopus, what size skimmer should I get?

I’ve got a macro aqua m50 I bought off amazon for about $50 and it works great. It kicked micro bubbles into the tank for the first couple of hours it was in there but nothing after that. It does a surprisingly good job of pulling thick gunk out, especially considering the low price tag.

Do you think it does as well as a AquaMaxx or an Octopus?
I’ve never owned either of those so I can’t say. I can say that i think it works great and it does a good job pulling out gunk. It’s got a really small footprint too. I’ve got a seaclear 50 gal tank and I can fit this skimmer and a seachem tidal 110 side by side in the slot on top. I’m happy with it.

This is the footprint in the tank. It’s next to a seachem 110.
