I’ve been there for sure. My advise would be to automate as much as possible so if your life gets busy, the tank is still in okay shape. RODI connected to the ATO tank with a float valve, a good CUC, timers on everything, Auto water changes if that’s your thing, auto testers if you can afford it, alarms on key parameters, etc.
Good luck!
I’m in the northwest of England.Welcome to R2R and back to the salty world Kurt. Your setup looks great.

Ew, but welcome to the community! I can't wait to follow your progress of your accountability. I think you could easily get a beautiful reef going! :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:(And a sump that when disturbed turned into something that would have been confused for chocolate milkshake.
Welcome to Reef2Reef!It’s sad to say that although I’ve been “in the hobby” for a couple of decades, I’ve never managed to get to a full stocked, what I would consider beautiful reef tank.
I’ve had many size tanks over the years, but unfortunately my current tank has been very neglected over the past 2 years. As of a few days ago it became nothing more than a glass box holding a hippo tang, rock, water and lots of algae.
(And a sump that when disturbed turned into something that would have been confused for chocolate milkshake.
So this is my accountability post, I’ve
-Stripped and deep cleaned the sump removing years of grime and buildup. (resulting in around a 1/3 water change),
-Purchased the first batch of clean up crew, (mainly snails but a few hermit crabs)
-Swapped out my old small skimmer for a nice new Reef Skimmer 600
-Added a dnd temp controller and new heater.
-And finally cleaned out air tube and restarted my auto tester (I use the xepta autoBalance), I also have the additional xepta abex unit and will add that back in at a later date)

Amazing results. Happy for you ;)Amazing what a few snails and crabs can do in 3 weeks.
Have been doing water changes and added the oversized skimmer. But no hands in the tank for manual removal.
