Hmmm. I'm pretty fickle, so what is my favorite or Holy Grail fish changes frequently.

Here are some fish that I would consider Holy Grail fish for me and whether I have kept them personally:
Attenuatus wrasse- yes
Halichoeres rubricephalus- yes
Pintail/lunatus hybrid- yes
Halichoeres chlorocephalus- no
Cirrhilabrus sanguinensis- no
Cook Island Helfrich firefish- no
Liopropoma carmabyi- no
Liopropoma fasciatum- no

There are a few fish that I coveted for years that I do now have - gem tang, polyzona tang, orange-belly regal angel. Then there are others that I have kept or tried to keep, but cannot anymore - achilles tang (due to systemic ich problems), ventralis anthias or tuka anthias. Then there are the truly unobtanium - peppermint angel, black-masked angel, conspic angel. Even if you can find one, the prices are exorbitant.

I have various fish in my mind that I would love to some day purchase that have ridiculous price tags attached to them -- the Gem Tang is at the top of the list. (But geez, they are gorgeous.)

But my holy grail fish is my purple tang. They are my favorite tangs and I waited twenty years to have a tank large enough to purchase one. He will likely always be my favorite fish and I am so proud to have him.
