HotRocks Takes the SPS Plunge...

Calling all SPS nerds.:cool:

I am a fish disease nerd. I do not venture outside of the fish disease and treatment forum very often, but I figured I would for once.

I have recently been struck by the itch (not ich;)) and took the plunge... So any tips tricks Etc that anyone has to offer I would greatly appreciate.

I understand the fundamentals and since I'm a disease freak all corals have been dipped with Bayer and are in a fallow QT for now. I am working on tuning my DT in hopes to get it to where it will support SPS once the corals are finished up with QT.

What I have:
Ghl 2.1 Four head doser
Reef octo 152s on QT
Hanna checkers for Alk and calcium
Hanna PH probe
Corals are in a nano with a single prime HD running AB+ for now (Been up and running for two years)

DT is 750XXL with Hydra 26 x 4.

So any other recommendations or tools that make life easier let me know!

@Crabs McJones has been coaching me along so far. I got some new corals in today as well from a good friend of mine. Pics tomorrow! Here is a little teaser pic of some of the battle corals I got last week!

@4FordFamily has no faith in me so please, help me prove him wrong!!!!

I don’t have faith that your tank with that many fish can keep SPS.

I definitely have faith that you can keep SPS and learn it. Just not in that tank. Just to clarify ;)

Your going to want to keep track of po4 also, so a hanna checker or test kit of your liking would be valuable

Thank you, I will add it to my list. Which model do you recommend when speaking of the Hanna checker? I love the checkers. Is it necessary to have both the high and low range? Or just one or the other?

Get the hanna low range. The high range doesn't go low enough for the lows we want in our tanks.

You will probably want the ultra low phosphorus checker and you can convert to phosphate from that reading.
Its easily done with instructions in that kit.
Everyone has different numbers they try to maintain. I would not look for a specific as much maintaining a stable number.
I ve seen anywhere from 0.03 to 0.2 seem to work for most.
