How can hobbiests help LFS with fragging?

I see LFS with issues from time to time and they get from wholesalers and farmers both. I still dip everything it is best practice atleast . I go a little further and qt also as less headache for me later down the line.

I agree dipping is the best practice. And yes I'm sure you can still get problem corals from frag farms. But the really good ones that sell aquacultured corals usually take the highest level of quarantine dipping and medication to ensure the lfs doesn't have do a lot of work to sell their frags. This is what keeps the farms in business. Selling good products that lfs can make money off of.

I ordered from farms before and got flat worms not acro eating but the other pain in **** ones planera something like that forgot the names all I can say it than k gawd for the QT and also I dislike aptias more then anything I can breed them like no other thats for sure. never had red bugs or any other serious issues.

Then your open for disaster. What are you using for a dip?

Interceptor and Revive, along with a close inspection. If ANYTHING looks questionable, I pitch the frag.

I'd say offer the LFS your frag deal and if they don't take it, no problem. That's their choice. I do like having an LFS in the area so I try to make sure some of my business goes their way, but it's not some sort of exclusive relationship. Some hobbyist can find everything they need at a LFS, and some of us may need more then some LFS have to offer. I know some LFS don't have a big enough customer base willing to buy the pricier stuff a lot of us want or have (equipment and corals). That's probably the main reason many of us started fragging and/or trading in the first place.

Last dipping comment for clarification!

We were only talking about dipping which doesn't get everything. The qt is a great additional tool and highly recommended. Also if you've got tons of interceptor to dip every frag in hook it up. I thought that stuff was hard to come by.

So here is a question I thought of just now.

How can we, as hobbiests, help our LFS with frags/fragging? Or can we? What if they are unwilling to trade with us, or give credit, or buy frags from us? Is that something that any LFS should do (trade or buy frags)?

Some stores get burned by people with fresh frags or people bringing in buckets of xenia and gsp. Thats probably why some of the stores dont. They just need to be selective but it becomes hard to turn away your everyday costumer to say i dont want your stuff.

Yea i understand what your saying here..but all of my frags are healed over before i sell them to them..Which i think should be the 1st law of coral fragging.trading,if there are any..

I bring xenia in in cups and ask, do you want these, if they says sure..they are free, if they say no,they go home,lol

Well being a legitimate buisness I would think you would have some ethics and purchase wholesale like the rest... Not search cracks list for a helpless person suffering for money and take of advantage of the customer and then quadruple the price in your store front for your local customers..... Not cool in my book...... But that's me..
