I see some people on here who mount their lights in the most clever ways. I have my mounted using the metal light mount that came with the tank/ light. I want to know how you are mounting your tank's lights. Did you go the DIY more complicated route, or did you stick with something simple. Photo Credit: @denisk

Carved up the bracket that mounted the two lights together to create 2 separate mounts and used the brackets from the middle lights metal mounts on cut 2x4 to mount them in my hood.

It makes it nice when working in the tank. More hitting my head in the lights. I don't have to raise them often but it is nice to be able to when needed.
I usually just have to sling my light to the side, then fidget with trying to get it back in the precise location it was at before. So I like your mounting way more than mine.

I have used wall mounts for TVs over my frag tank, Pvc pipe, aluminum extrusion.

Currently building a quick/temporary PVC pipe/ aluminum extrusion mount for my 300g. Still not sure how or if I am going to run a canopy. I built my stand really tall @ 40" and I need a step stool to do anything but feed the tank, so a canopy / upper cabinets may be out of the question for this setup

@Gumbies R Us - Is that your new tank?
No, not at all, just a photo of one of the users on here. I liked the way he had his lights mounted and felt it was a good photo to use as an example. My tank should be set back up in a couple of months once we move!

this may be what i have to do for my tank. looks great
The canopy is heavy. It was designed to rest on top of a tank. It is hung with four heavy duty hooks and I used to turn buckles so I could make sure it was easy to level. I also cut out most of the top of it to allow for better air flow.
Cables go down a cable Chase on the wall because in my opinion, seeing the black cables everywhere is distracting from the view of the tank.
