I recently put a couple corals at the top of my tank but I’m not sure if I could do a water change and leave them out of the water. Could I do water changes and keep the corals out of the water or do I have to move them

you should be okay to do a WC with corals exposed to air for a little bit.

what corals do you have that are close to the top?

If some corals come out water you could get a squirty bottle full of salt/ tank water and occasionally spray them if you worried or if got sump try siphon as much out sump as possible then take rest from dt so dt level doesn't drop as much.
But you put corals at top and if want to do a wc then you going have to do a water change, just don't dilly dally around and get wc done ASAP kind thing
Good luck ^_^

I try to minimize time out of water just to avoid stress as much as possible. So when I’m going to do a water change big enough to expose them I just have my NSW ready to go (I’m hauling buckets between floors).
