How do I exactly utilize these two reactors?

I had this sump for a long time and I think it's silly how I'm not utilizing these cool looking things. I attempted to configure these two with gfo and carbon but things just didn't seem right to me so I stopped. Can someone assist with how to get these set up correctly? I was able to get water flowing through it of course but I wasn't confident in the setup. Any help will be appreciated!

You can use those for things like GFO and/or carbon. I'd clean them out first though. The ball valves are used to control how much flow is going through the media. You put the media between the two sponge inserts.

Ah so I was doing it right! I was over complicating things. Thank you! Does it matter how much media I use?

It does yes. Most of the GAC and GFO have dosing instructions on the back. Also, you want enough flow for a gentle tumble to keep it from clumping, not a vigorous churning as it will break down the media and blow it in your tank.
