How do I run a succesful refugium

IMO. You are not going to have enough room in your chamber to run your carbon, matrix AND meaningful refugium. I dont know the size of the media are on the Tidal, but assume its almost like the AQ110.......
If you are sold on the refugium idea, I would look at adding a second HOB for just refugium, OR, buy a used hob reactor and convert to refugium for cheato.

I mean all matrix does is sit at the bottom and carbon will float however I can DIY something up to keep in underwater.

Suggest watching the last episode of Reef Therapy where Salem talks about refugium's. Evidence shows that macroalgae can be harmful to DOC export which is why there are more and more cryptic sumps being used.

It worked like a charm...in fact, too good. Had to keep harvesting every saturday.
It was on a 75G, connected in-line to one of my canister filters under my tank. Used cheap LED string, 12 hours a day opposite to DT lights
