I’m finally getting enough growth on my acros that I need to take frags to make space in the tank. I have no idea what kind of value to place on them. I have no source to sell them locally, so I usually take them to a LFS and trade for store credit. Is there any kind of online resource to determine what I should charge the store or just trust them to pay a fair price? The ones in the picture are miyagi tort.

I tend to take the price from where I got the piece/ froma reputable site that is not overpriced and take half of that. I find this is a good starting place. As far higher end pieces I take into account growth rate, supply and what its worth personally to me to sell it for.

If I'm taking them to a store I usually let them decide. I make it clear I want them to make a profit but I'm not giving them away. I'd rather they be happy and keep me in mind for certain corals than squeeze a few more bucks out of them. That being said it's not hard to figure out what they are selling for either by going back to the store, or just asking one of your friends to check next time they are in.

Thank of a lfs as a pawn shop. They won't pay retail because they have to make money. Expect a lfs to give you 30-50 percent for it.

I believe the overall formula for most LFSs is a 300% markup to cover all costs, hoping they make a net net profit of 5-10%

LFSs would buy a $10 item in hopes to sell it for $30

In Canada, those frags would sell well at $80 for good colour and $120 for great colour to the consumer.
I get 1/3rd of the retail price for any livestock.

My LFS also gives 1/3 what they'll price it for. Very reasonable, given that they have all the trouble of selling it.
