@JMetaxas

It's just simple 1/2" EMT thinwall electrical conduit from home depot. I put a 90° bend in it, and used the pipe straps made for screwing it to studs to attach it to the rear of the stand. Easy and cheap. You probably want to drill holes in it to attach eye bolts or the hanging gear that came with the lights you use. Any specifics you want to know? I can take more pictures after work tonight.

Just did the same on the 40 breeder I set up-

I built a floating canopy to house the Aquaticlife 48" Hybrid fixture. Power strip and all wires associated with the lighting are tucked inside the canopy so the only visible wire off the back is the one for the power strip. It's housing the fixture , 4 kessil 160's and 3 moonlight LED's. Before the canopy I had a shelf above the tank that the fixture hung from but it looked too cluttered so I removed it and built this.

Awesome. Thanks ! I'm thinking 3/4" for me to try. The 60" Aquatic fixture is quite heavy.

3/4" might be good. I've seen people do it with 1/2" water/gas iron pipe too, looks pretty nice if you clean it up and paint it, but not as sleek looking. I almost went that way with mine (a nice black wrinkle or hammertone paint would match my stand nicely) but it was cheaper to simply bend up some EMT.

I have two relatively “creative” hanging systems. One is using counter-top brackets and a floating canopy. The second is a mix of the GHL mitras mounting bracket and an ati sunpower.

Hey what did you use to cover the t5 in the 3rd pic? Also just one of the ghl mounts for the 4ft t5?

With my newest corner tank I have a radion. In the part of the house the tank is in we have peaked ceilings that are textured. With the hanging kit for the radions they want you to put it into the ceiling and I figured if I needed to it would be a lot easier to fix a couple small holes in the wall then it would be on a textured ceiling. Long story short I ran to the hardware store and in the shelving section I bought theses shelf braces and hung my lights from them. Now my wife thinks that there should be an actual shelf on top of the braces and wants me to cut some wood, finish it, and put it on top of the braces so she can have a shelf to put pictures on. :squigglemouth:

This is EXACTLY what I. was looking for!! I have the same tank, and have forever been trying to figure something out. And,,,,,, kudos to your wife for the shelf idea. I'm running it by mine right now.

Again,
Thank you!
