How do you keep peppermints alive in your sump?

Seems they always end up going over the baffle, into the return chamber, and presumably crunched up through the return pump. Maybe I need to put the big peppermints into the sump and not the smaller ones? Of course, once they are over the baffle they can't get back to the refugium to clear out the Aiptasia mess in their either...

Are you able to put some polyfill by the baffle or maybe a coarse sponge?

Hmm I've never kept mine in the sump but I could see them going over a baffle easily. My will swim upside down on the water surface gathering food. I wonder if you could make a set of teeth like a wier and attach it to the top of the baffle to keep them from going over?

That's an interesting idea. How does the aquamesh affect the flow through the sump? How often do you need to take it out and clean?

the aquamesh flow restriction is minimal if you choose the coarse grade. It's rigid and does not clog easily. I actually do not clean it because it is saturated with feather dusters and sponges. I have a layer of filter floss after the mesh, I throw that out and replace it once every 6 weeks or so. The seapora stuff I linked is generally cheap enough for a 10-foot roll to not worry about it.

Are you feeding them? I have a dozen of them in my sump and they're trained to take LPS pellets from my hand. I find its when I forget to feed them that they stick their head in the skimmer/return. Puzzles me how they can find their way into any chamber they want up or down stream. I find them in the socks regularly.

I run no filtration, so food naturally ends up in the sump. I may need to get some sinking pellets to keep them happier in the future. I was hoping they'd be feasting on all the aiptasia...

I forgot my WB came with this installed before the return chamber. It's the same stuff only white. It doesn't seem hinder the flow, or not enough to matter. I haven't cleaned it since starting the tank over a year ago but I run socks.
