Just a general question and for fun. I just made it through ich on my Purple tang but looking at the Gem for an addition and seriously wonder... :)

Ich will usually stick out a bit. May also be slightly discolored. And if you don’t think you would see that you wouldn’t be observing your 2000 dollar fish enough ;)

Ha. Perfect. When I was looking at buying one to go with my purple I was excited but the though of ich on it (and the cost to loose it) may keep me away... I had to do the entire tank fishless for weeks and tank to tank in QT so definitely don't want that again...

There is a very good chance the purple will attack the Gem. Same body shape. And they can be relentless.

Yea. Not worth the risk with the purple already in your tank. You might get away with it if the purple is very small but otherwise I think the gem would get shredded.

2000 dollar CUC snack when the purple murders it as others have said.

Mixing a gem and purple can be done, but not advised unless you have a huge tank ..... and even then, maybe still not advised. I added a gem to my 450 with many resident tangs, including a purple. Used a social acclimation box initially for the gem. Didn’t help - purple would have killed it without intervention. I had to remove the purple to my frag tank for 6 weeks which did the trick.

Just me but unless I knew for 100% sure that the ich was gone I wouldn't put a fish that cost 4 figures in there and the fact remains you can't tell that for sure at this point. Adding it to an established Tang that is known for being one of the more aggressive tangs only compounds the problem.
