I am in the process of setting up a sump refugium for my 40 gallon tank. But I am having a hard time finding chaeto. BRS is sold out. Algae Barn is sold out. Just about every place that I have seen highly recommended is sold out. So if I find someone selling chaeto that hasn't already come highly recommended, how do I tell if it is clean? If it is not clean, can I clean it?

Visually and you can agitate in a container of tank water to dislodge any foreign matter

So I'm not worried about anything microscopic here?

If it is dirty, is there a specific method for cleaning it?
Have water flow through it
Most Chaeto if dirty will have aptasia, pods, slime and hydroids on them
