How far apart rock you guys glue your frags to your rocks? I leave big spaces for grow out but then my tank looks so bare and fills up fast. Am I leaving too much room? What's your input

Depends... in my nano I put them close (1" or so), in my 180 I put them a little farther apart (up to 3-6") but usually neither get more then a few inches.

Well I start out being a good reefer at about 6" apart. I then run out of space and get progressively closer and closer together. I have that coral addiction problem referenced above:) My experience is that SPS will usually work the space issue out amongst themselves, with the occasionally war resulting in death of either colony....most will grow around each other though.

I have made a custom approximately 12 inch spacer out of reef cement (purple) to make sure I have adequate room. In this photo you can see I have placed it between my strawberry shortcake and a new frag/mini colony (light yellow frag with pinkish tips) to make sure there is adequate room for growth.

And in this photo, you can see the large spacer has been removed. I am now fully confident that there is adequate space between the frags to allow unencumbered growth.

sps coral addiction is a real problem 4 me as well I have a 10 foot tank that is packed with a few hunderd mini colonies and as they grow in the ones I dont like I move to the 8 ft frag tank behind it and sell cheap to rid of them and get more corals

mine started about 6 inchs apart and then I got another 40 piece shipment out of my QT tank and probally about 3 inch apart I will give about 3 month time and thin out the ones that are not as colorful

Whats the one on top?

its top secret, no just kidding. Its a wild or maricultured colony that I did not have any room for.

sorry, did not mean to hijack thread. My photo of the spacer and comments were meant to be funny.

There is never enough room in the tank for all the sps. Like most, I space mine about 6 inches apart, then 3 inches apart as real estate runs out, to finally a 1/4 inch but the 1/4 inch is just till I figure out what to either move or remove. From an esthetic point of view, I think leaving 6 inches of space or so allows for a colony to grow and expand. The closer spacing is probably because of my impatience to have a full garden of sps.
