Update time.

So I determined that the Apex temp probe was reading high by 4.1 degrees. Yes, that much. I could have adjusted it through the calibration function, but I felt better replacing it. New probe installed and an adjustment to my heater control programing and it looks like I am back in business.

I have my inkbird set to 77 degrees and I am maintaining very close to that now. Here is the graph since the new probe install.

I now have plans to implement an secondary temp probe and set up alerts if there is a deviation of let's say 0.2 degrees +or- between the two probes which should alert me to any drift over time.
I run 2 temp probes for just that reason. .5 degree difference on average. Usually check with a dip thermostat along with a cheapo I keep in the sump.

Domt mind the salinity probe its whack after 3 years of okish service.

How far away are your display and sump temp probes? The graphs look very similar so I guess that it does not really matter.

Sump isnt remote, literally under tank, in stand. The .5 difference is fairly consistent, the tank probe may creep a bit higher than .5 degrees if the house ambient temp is over 76-77 degrees but at that point A/C is running due to having old dogs roaming around living their finest lives, lol.

Main upside about running T5's again, water temp stays high enough my heater wont even power on for the most part.

So I am in a bit of a hot spell right now and the tank is showing the effects. When should one act or worry. What is the max temp that you would be comfortable running?

84 but I would let it work higher if it needed.

Sprung's outside tank run up to I think 94 and he said that there as some distress at that level.

I think the bigger issue is gas exchange. At the higher temps it is hard for the CO2 to come out of the water. Good gas exchange and low ambient CO2 go a long way here IME.

Agreed!! Your tank should be seeking balance with room temp. If your room is at 74, your tank should need to be heated to keep it at 78. If the room is at 74 and your tank is at 82, I would IMMEDIATELY (if not sooner) start looking for why!! Perhaps you have a bad heater?
A tank being 3-4 degrees above ambient without any heaters running is pretty normal actually.

In a small 75g or so tank, you are looking at like 100-250 equivalent watts of heat being added from non heater equipment.

40W skimmer
80W return
20-40W wavemakers
50-150W heat gain from lighting
Etc.
