So I bought a mystery wrasse from my LFS that has been in their fish system for almost 9 months (7/14)!! They run their system 1.020 sg with copper. I'm wondering if these conditions can cause long term issues in a fish after 8 months? Let me know, thanks!

I personally would bump it up to 1.024.
LFS run their tanks slightly low for disease control but is technically not hyposalinity which is 1.009
I’m not a fan of therapeutic dosage in low salinity setting

It's in my reef now, I don't qt or acclimate at all. Just wondering if being in hypo and copper for 9 months is detrimental to its health.

Guess we'll find out lol

Got it
The problem with long term copper is that it often can allow a resistance to build
I assume it’s coppersafe and not cupramine?

Hmm, I'm not sure tbh
Coppersafe is by Fritz, previously mardel. Copper power is similar to coppersafe and cupramine is an ionic form and more potent

It depends on the type of copper used and its dose. I've kept fish long term in chelated coppersafe with no issues. Ionic copper is more toxic.

More to the issue - many stores keep their systems at partial hyposalinity and partial copper. They may be doing that. The trouble is, partial medication just doesn't work, and fish kept under these conditions can have as many disease issues and non-treated fish. Ich needs to be treated at a specific gravity of 1.009, it thrives at 1.020. Likewise with copper; you need to be above 2.0 ppm to see good control.

Just to update, this fish did not make it. I don't think I'll buy anymore fish that lived in hypo and copper for such a long length of time. Your mileage may vary.
