How many friends have you made in the hobby?

Community is HUGE and it keeps us thriving as people as well as reef hobbyists! Without connection, we might all give up!

Happy Sunday fam!

Bump!

Sadly, NONE -- meaning I don't know anyone local to me who's into reef tanks.

I interact with people here on R2R about reef specific topics (obviously).
I talk to the guys at my LFS a bit when I'm there very infrequently.

...but, alas,,, that's about it

This is tricky, locally not very many. Colorado has a thriving saltwater scene. I've hit up the shows and went to a few club meetings it's always the same...

When I tell people I've got a 20 gallon, I can feel the body language change. The big tankers see me as a novice.

Oh well their loss, I could save them a lot of money... lol.

I'd like to see a beer and reef tour. Go around and have a few while checking out people tanks (make the wife drive of course). Alteast I'd get a buzz and see neat aquariums.

Hey @revhtree maybe it's time to create a nano badge. I see a badge for big aquariums. Why not celebrate and normalize smaller aquariums also?

Lots! Many of whom I keep in touch with off platform and have visited

My reefing friends left the hobby a couple years ago. I have many reefing acquaintances though. But to me a “friend” is someone you actually know and socialize with, so I don’t have anyone like that. I am in a reefing dead zone, lots of corn fields! Lol!

This hobby isn't like others. It is a niche hobby. Not many people participate. Locally, there are a few places, but my interaction with them is business.

This is why R2R is so important; it brings together a small global community.

I know one person locally but I only talk with him a few times a year. I have a close friend who has recently got into the hobby so I have that now.

2 Tangs
2 Chromis
2 Clowns
Swallowtail Angelfish
Male Bluethroat Trigger
Male Lyretail Anthia
Melanurus wrasse
Orange spotted goby
Royal Gramma
and a Pajama Cardinal

Soooo... 13

I've made a couple through the hobby! Some I keep in contact with regularly, others I talk to whenever I see them at shows. So it just depends!

I have to say that I've made several friends that are NOT local that I text with every day almost, talk on the phone, even go visit from time to time!

A long distance hobby friendship can happen and even be very meaningful!

Hey which badge are you referring to?

Hey y'all want to hang out on a google meet up video chat one evening and talk reefs? I've talked about it before but this gives a great excuse to get together and forge some friendships!

I would be 100% down to hang out with everyone on a Google Meet or whatever!
