Does anyone have actual metrics? Or a best guess?

Thanks!
I would also be interested to know the answer to this question. I think there might have been a question of the day on this same question a year or so ago, I will see if I can find it.

Yes, there was a thread here on R2R on that topic …. mostly ended up with folks just 'defending' their own wild guesses :). I bet you can find it if you search. Twice in the last week I have happened upon an article that references the Drake Equation (probably unfamiliar to all but we SETI nerds). Maybe a version of same to arrive at the number of reef tanks.

Impossible to know. Not everyone is on or even likes r2r, rc, nano reef, or the other numerous online reef forums.

It's not impossible to know, just really, really, really inconvenient to gather the data lol.

Of course it’s impossible. Are you going to go door to door for everyone on the planet and see if they have a tank?

Perhaps not theoretically impossible, but practically so ….. so you do statistically material sampling to get to an estimate.

Or you can lie to make up stuff. I’m sure those are soooooo accurate, lol
I don't know the accuracy of that particular one I linked to, but businesses spend a ton of money paying for market research like that and rely on it for making important decisions about marketing and manufacturing, so I assume it's accurate enough.
