I am working on gathering gear for a new DT build. The tank is 72" long x 24" wide x 30" deep.

I am thinking of getting four XR30 Pro Gen 5 lights so I can have a little bit of overlap between the lights and just run them a at a lower intensity to keep the PAR reasonable. My tank is a mixed tank LPS, some SPS, and softies. If I went with three XR30's I would have little to no overlap and I worry that I would have to run the lights at a higher intensity to get the light levels at the bottom of the tank that I need.

More is not always better when it comes to lights, so I thought I would ask for opinions.

You could get away with 3 for a mixed reef, but you would have better coverage once the tank starts getting fuller as the corals grow with 4.
I had 4 gen 4's on my 240 mixed reef.

Agreed 4. I’ve got 5 on my 84x36x36 mixed reef

Go with 4. I am running 3 gen 4 on my 70 x 30 x 21 and will be adding another one soon. I have to run the lights at 100% right now but I also have diffusers.

I was leaning towards four lights so that is what I will do. I just wanted to make sure there would not be issues.

Thank you all for your help!
