How much Tampa bay saltwater sand do I need?

My Tami dimensions are 48”x18” and I’m looking for about a 2” inch sand bed , would the 8(area)(depth of ned) be good?

I have a 48x24 and needed about 80 lbs so my guess is you would need something like 60.

Yep, There sand is very different than ocean direct and others. Much chunkier and I even got some old coral skeleton and a very large fighting conch shell in mine. Personally I love it but I also have a very high flow tank going on.

and the sand doesnt seem "too" coarse for sand sifters?

They suggested I get 1 lb per gallon. Do not do this lol

I got 120 lbs of sand for my 120 gallon 4x2 and had 30 lbs leftover after a 2” sandbed. In other words I used 90 lbs.

I would think 60 would be fine. Maybe 70.

To course for sifters for sure. And yes do not follow the one lb per gallon unless you want a sand tank . You can see how it turned out in my build thread. I did add some ocean direct on top of the 80 lbs just to have a mix of grain size. I like the natural look it gave

You can, I think BRS actually tested a tank like that in there biome testing.

You can use some live stuff for the top and fill the bottom with bagged sand. This works fine. The sand that you get is going to have fauna and biome stuff that is oxygenated, so don't bury it.

I would just buy an amount of sand to cover the top inch.

but than would it just be better to go with 100% tbs sand even if i wanna have sand sifting goby? love the pfp by the way

Sure. No problem. It just costs more for 100% ocean/live sand. What is in the TBS sand will spread to the bagged sand in time.

That is fine too. People used to do this all of the time. When a big flat rate USPS box was like $3.99, you could get like a cubic foot of ocean sand for like $15-20.

Most people think that those 4 dudes are a family photo. I have stereo butcher albums in all three states... took me a while to get those. Bowie is awesome too...

If budget isn't an issue, go for all TBS sand, you won't be disappointed.
