How should I silicone my sump baffles?

Thank you for your help despite the bad pictures and drawing. This is how I planned on doing my sump baffles, the first one with cuts in the middle as my first drain baffle then the plain one lifted about an 1” above so the water flows under then through the black filter to then overflow from the overflow baffle into my return section. Does anyone have any input on how they would maybe change it up?

I always used Aqueon aquarium sealant. It comes in clear or black color

if your going to be using a protien skimmer or have a refugium make sure to take that into account for where you place the baffles. A lot of skimmers have a footprint of 6-8 inches

This is how I've always done mine. Books and Painters tape lol

I used some duct tape and seems like it was too sticky and now I have strands of tape stuck that I can’t get out what should I do? Is it okay to leave that in there or just cover it with silicone?
