Depends how you calculate it, you can calculate it in a way where you only drop small percentages every time.

But tbh i never used the method myself either.

What you suggest is way easier!!

Doing it by water change just forces the drop into fewer times of larger drops, or a very long wait. :)

Don't have to.... had a tank that ran at .028 for a while. But you can just do wc with .001-.002 lower water. It'll lower faster than you think.

Don’t believe your numbers are close to accurate. I think you must have had some significant test errors in the calcium and mag numbers, and must have used a high alk mix to begin with.

At a sg of 1.028, all values will be 6.1% higher than at 35 ppt (sg = 1.0264). Thus, if magnesium is 1350 ppm at 35 ppt, it will be 1432 ppm at sg = 1.028.
