I’m picking up a blue Teng tomorrow and I understand they have a reputation for being sickly. Any tips on making sure the ich doesn’t come?
I will be doing a short observational QT
Getting a good quality fish is vitally important, not all dealers offer that, you need to observe the fish on your own to ensure it is healthy:
Watch for these key issues:
•Signs of parasitism on ANY fish in the same water system as the one you wish to purchase (this includes buying invertebrates!).
•Cloudy appearance to the fish’s skin or eyes
•Major fin damage or missing scales
•Rapid gill respiration rate (greater than 100 to 120 bpm)
•Abnormal thinness in the fish’s abdomen or behind eyes
•Lethargy, hanging near the surface or excessive shyness
•ADR - Anything that just doesn’t look right to you could be an issue.
•Watch the fish feed before you acquire it.
Then, a proper quarantine process is best:
