I have a gigantic Toadstool that is ballpark about 18 inches in diameter and takes up basically it’s own quarter of the tank. I definitely need to trim it but never have before, ideally I’d like to just snip the entire outer rim off in a circle and then from there maybe cut that into pieces to put on frags and maybe get some store credit lol, is this fine or would this harm and potentially kill the entire coral? I’ve only ever fragged SPS and that’s as simple as essentially snapping branches off lol.

Grab a sharp pair of scissors, reach into your tank, and cut off a piece. Fragging a leather is that simple.

if you want to pull the leather into a bucket to frag it, that works too, but I've always done it in tank, and I've seen many others do it in tank. Especially at a certain point, they become too big to pull out of the tank. I just make sure to run activated carbon for a few days. Cut your frags as big or small as you want, they will grow. Good luck

Just recently did this. I touched it a bit so it’s close up, then cut the top 2” off it. Moved the cut 2” ring into a drag tank I diced it up. Only thing to watch is my alk tanked for awhile. Had to increase my dosing almost double due to the 2 toadstools trying to rebuild and heal themselves. They were 2 large 16” leathers.

That's curious. I didn't know soft corals use alk?

I was surprised as well. But, 2 weeks later and I’m still dosing almost double to keep my alk around 8. Calcium dosing did not change. The test were 24hrs apart so I’m quite certain ‍♂️
