I have a 150 cube, 36x36x27 deep, I've been running black boxes and a 4 bulb T5 for over a year, with OK results. These dimensions have proved to be a PITA to cover. The tank is mixed with LPS and a few SPS pieces. I just recently set up a frag system and decided to upgrade the lighting on my display allowing me to put my black boxes on the frag tank. I bought two 26 HDs and figure I can supplement those with the T5s?? The lights are about 12" above the water with the T5 centered over the tank and the 26s centered between the T5s and the edge of the tank. Does it sound like I am on the right track? I would like to buy two more 26hds and remove the T5s all together if it's possible. Just looking for input, opinions and tips. TIA

I like it. Keep the T5's if they work, or don't. Running hydras at full?

yes it does.

unfortunately the 26's have a much lower output than the BB's.

this might help you out

a lux meter is $15 on amazon ebay. look for a 100,000 lux meter.

were I to start from scratch on that tank id sa4 4 16in BB or 2 32's.
lenses on thebb are 60 and 90 degree. if you pull the lenses, they are 150degrees + and you lose about 30% power. a Mars aqua is with lenses capable of approx 1000+par at 100% at 12in.

Currently the hydras are in acclimation mode running the David Saxby program, I would say around 50% right now

While the BB's might have more power, I have been very unsatisfied with the viewing color, my corals did seem happy. Maybe I should worry about them more than myself!
