Hydros Quad Strip Issues

I have 4 wifi strips and a wifi feeder and have had no issues with them in well over a year since I replaced my router back in December 2023. You think if they were that bad I would not be able to go that long without any issues. On my old router I had them dropping out about three times a week if not more often. I did not have issues with anything else until I added a new car to the wifi and then it would crash every time I got home in the car. So that was the main reason for getting a new router but it also fixed the issue with the wifi strips dropping out. I still would not use a wifi strip outlet for ATO, AWC or dosing since if there ever were a communication issue with one of those on it would remain on until communications is restored.

Just a thought. I switched from Verizon home internet to T-Mobile 5G home internet. I don't believe the wifi router would make that big of a difference but it's a possibility. It's a new router.

On mine a reset of the router would fix mine. I did not have to reboot the collective. Also I would try the router first and see if that gets them going again. If not just reboot you wifi master and not the complete collective to see if that gets it back. I used the preferred wifi master setting to set a different controller as the wifi master when I was troubleshooting my issue. The last straw for me was when I got a new car that had wifi access that I setup and my wife said every time I came home it would crash the internet. It was actually crashing the wifi but to her she lost internet access. I was able to remotely reboot my router to fix the issue when I had it.

Resetting router did not fix. Had to reboot collective to restore connection. Has happened 3 times in about 6 months of ownership. So not often, but annoying when it does happen.

Again, not saying wifi doesn't work 98% of the time. Usually not an issue. Just that I would pay more than a fair amount to avoid the wifi issue altogether. It's not perfect and I would rather be able to remove the variable altogether.

I'm assuming other wifi strips will hook pair with the controller?

I have 2x x4 pro packages that work perfectly. I have one of 3 WiFi strips that still work. It’s for non-vital on off control so I use Home Depot Hubspace instead.

I have my own router and use a cable modem supplied by my service provider, Some of the service provider supplied routers will also kill wifi when there is no internet access which is not good when using wifi power strips.

I have literally over 100 WiFi devices in my home that don’t disconnect. If it’s my router, CoralVue needs to fix compatibility issues on their end.

There is the XP8 or Launch that has AC outlets on the controllers. Since they are built onto the controllers those do not rely on wifi signal also since they are on the controller the if input dependency will work even with no wifi. With a wifi strip that will not work if there is a wifi communications issue.

I was referring to wifi strips connected to the Hydros controllers and not others. The Hydros uses a communications between the controller and router that is not in common use. In fact some routers will think it is a security issue and block it. also a lot of the guest channels will also block it since the router does not want communications between local devices on a guest network. The communications is a Tuya protocol communications standard since the Hydros wifi strips are Tuya protocol wifi strips but the outputs have to have the same configuration as the Hydros ones to work with the Hydros controllers.

My tank rarely overheats but I would like to put my GHL fan on it and possibly a dosing pump but second guessing the pump.

Do not use dosing pump on a wifi outlet. Wifi strips will stay in whatever state the outputs are in if communications is dropped until communications is restored or power is lost to the wifi strip. Use a XP8 or Launch AC outlet if you need an AC outlet. I use either X10, Sole or Minnow dosing pumps are the simple doser that connects to a drive port.

Nope, just on the Hubspace app. That would be great though. Oh, I also had one of those hydros WiFi single plugs stop working. Junk!

Ugh. That sucks! I had a Feit Wifi plug that hasn't failed me yet. I do use it for the dosing pump. Thankfully we don't lose power very often. When we do, I fly home to plug in the generator.

Alright guys. I’m leaning on you hard for this one.

I’m sure everyone that has a Quad Strip has probably experienced this. The app says the strip is not responding. After lots of research and contacting support, everything points to the same thing. Doesn’t work with a mesh network blah blah blah. You need an access point blah blah blah. Short story long, I separated the mesh network into 2.4gHz and 5.0gHz. Also, did end up flipping the bill for an access point which was recommended to try from Coralvue. They even sent me a new WiFi strip to try. I can’t figure this out and it’s really frustrating. I’ve spent hours on this. Restarting routers, access points and controller. It’s quite annoying. Does anyone have any insight on this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I went through the exact same set of problems and solutions with the outlet strip and feeders. Totally unreliable!
I ditched them all. I'm happy with the $300 X8 outlet control. One time cost for long time piece of mind.

Another disappointing phone call. After trying the second power strip and the access point, no beans. I changed every setting I had on the WiFi and the access point. Absolutely nothing worked. Practically bricked the hydros controller. Not a good way to start out being my first controller.

You do know that the controllers also need to be on the same access point as the wifi strips for them to communicate with each other. Also the device with the app you are using also has to be on that same channel and have bluetooth turned on. Also you have to use the installed app and not the web app.

Yes yes yes and yes. Lol. I did my research and the gentleman that was helping me made sure also. Because this is the second power strip, he is most inclined to say it’s my network. I agree with him but I’m not sure what it is.

I have mine set to WPA/WPA2. This is what he suggested. I do have a WPA2 setting as well but never messed with it. I can try that tomorrow. Maybe it’ll work.

Good Lord they are all over the place with the “fix”! Recommending WPA security? That’s not terribly secure anymore, but better than nothing. That said, we aren’t able to complain this one away, sadly, despite the poor hardware. We simply have to accept the fact that it *should* work, but your mileage may vary. WiFi has so many variables that affect one but not another. Users rely on cable company to manage their router and others buy their own. Throw in how often updates are applied to routers (if at all!) it’s a humongous time drain without a way to provide a true fix for all scenarios. Flukes has it right-is it worth your time to continue chasing, or is it worth it to spend the $300? I myself tire of the strip connectivity issues, but I’ve given up and will get another XP8. My time is too valuable to chase something that I have very little control over and the hardware could change in a year and we might have to do this all over again! I hope you do find a good solution that is acceptable to you. Just know you aren’t alone!
