Hello, last night my hydros disconnected from my wifi and I haven't been able to reconnect. So far I have tried resetting the router and the collective itself. I attached a short video and I'm hoping someone can help point me in the right direction.

Edit: The videos aren't working so I just attached a picture. The wifi light on the XP8 cycles between yellow and red while that yellow light on the top left of the X4 also cycles between yellow and red.

Are you able to connect via the Hydros app? I'd assume not but asking just in case.

With reefing equipment you should try setting up a 2.4gHz dedicated WiFi band with both network name and password that is very simple (ie, no special characters). Unfortunately some reefing equipment uses very cheap WiFi connectivity chips.

A completely separate one not shared by anything else? The name and password are both just letters and numbers

I cannot. I can see the devices on the app and I tried reconnecting them and they just kind of went in a loop for a few hours where the lights all just kept changing colors.

My 2.4ghz network (not a 2.4ghz/5.0ghz dual band) specifically for reef equipment and other household “smart” equipment which can have WiFi connection issues. That type of equipment sometimes does not connect reliably to dual band setups. Stuff manufactured in China sometimes cannot deal with special characters common to the English character selection.

That said I don’t have issues connecting to the XP8 but the Hydros WiFi strips are super unreliable.

Hey guys just wanted to give an update on this if anybody runs into this problem maybe it will help. So there was a firmware update that I needed to do but it wasn't connected to wifi so I couldn't. I have wifi extenders in my house that are dedicated 2.4 ghz so I connected them to those as @slingfox suggested above. They connected to wifi no problem but still occasionally disconnected. I updated the firmware and it's better but still not as good as it was. I'm connected right now and most of the day but it does disconnect fairly frequently but does instantly reconnect. Not sure if the firmware update is causing the disconnects or not but it's mostly working so for now I'm good with it.
