I am officially college bound!

Just got accepted into PSU at the Lehigh Valley branch! First 2 years will be spent there and the rest at the main campus.

The main reason for me telling you guys this is 1. Im so excited for college and 2. I need to pay for tuition myself. :( But hey in the end it will pay off. I need you guys to look at my ads in the classified section so i can start gathering up some cash for next year.

congrats dude! i remember when i got my early acceptance letter.....the day after thanksgiving. the rest of my senior year in highschool was a breeze......felt wonderful to get that over with so i could just enjoy the rest of the year.

what made you choose PSU? did you declare a major? i really like their main campus, as i've been up there a couple of times.

what other schools were you considering?

PSU was where my dad went, and i didnt declare officially yet. Im still 50/50 on the Business or Marine biology. Im a real math and science guy.

I was considering Pitt, Temple, West Chester, and Maryland...but im decided on PSU...:)

is penn state really that expensive per year? i would they they are closer to about $15k per year including room/board/books/meal card etc.

10k for my first 2 years at the Lehigh Valley Campus. I will still be living at home for those 2 years and commuting to school. Then as i go into the graduate programs it gets 2-4k more expensive.

But, i have to point out my dad is an alumni of PSU, so they said i should get some money off as well? so, we will see if they live up to their word.

WOW!!! That is awesome Steve!!! Ur gonna love the reef in the food cafeteria is is SICK!!! A few friends and myself took a trip up there and met Sanjay and Dr. Feldman. We were also able to get some frags from the tank! It was an amazing trip.

When I went to tech school. It was only a 1 year course and cost me 16K... luckily I was able to get 9K in grants that I dind't have to pay back and the rest in student loans. (paid them all off now too)

Crappy thing is that I spend all that money and don't even work in that field now. lol

Well business is so common, i would love to try to do something most people aren't doing. Im still on the fence though.

Im guessing you have a major in the same field. Where do you work now? And whats the pay if i may ask? :)

For the most part, the pay is crap and its a hard, thank-less job. Jobs with a Bachelor's degree in science pay $25-50k. You need a PhD to make any money, and thats more school.

Though if you're dead set on it, you'll ignore all the warnings and go into it anyways (I did!).

i completely agree with that. there are basically no good paying jobs (that are self gratifying) with a BS in sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry....and anything that is a subspecialty of those 3).

biology majors are a dime a dozen.....so i definiltely don't recomend that. everything i've heard about marine biology is you gota go to one of the "top" universities in the marine bio fields in order to look good (i figured most of those were in south florida and san diego).

i majored in Biochemistry and Psychology......the psyc major was compeltely worthless IMO....lol (except for some of the neuro classes). The biochemistry major and chemistry minor is the only thing that makes me a marketable asset to companies since biochemistry encompases pretty much everything in biology and chemistry.....lol

tuition has gone up the last couple of years.....but grad school cost me total of about $20k for 1 year at Virginia Tech.....that included tuition, apartment rent, food etc.
