About 3-4 weeks ago I got a sea hare from my local fish store. I had a first class hair algae problem. I’m leery of Tangs . They never worked out for me and I don’t light cigars with $100 dollar bills to keep trying.
So enter the sea hair . Btw I do keep nutrients quite low . With the hair algae I had 5ish nitrate and 0 phosphate. I was dosing lanthium chloride in small amounts. Moving on . I got this sea hare and it took him about 2 weeks to clear the aquarium of hair algae problem. 90 gallon aquarium standard 18”/48”/25”.
Now that he has ran out of algae I have been putting in a sheet of nori every day. Rubber banded to a rock.
Has anybody had success with these hares? I mean long term? I’m happy with his performance and happy to put in a sheet a day . For the foreseeable future. Btw my water parameters have improved since hair algae is gone ! Nitrate is about 10 and phosphate is still about 0 .

Just curious, what happened to what type of tang?

I've not heard of many folks fail with a quality yellow tang.

I had a purple sea hare many years ago. I do not recall exactly what happened to it, but it was not a long term resident.

I think trading or selling it to someone else with a similar need might be a decent option.

I’ve tried (not recently) the yellow tangs twice.
I’ve tried the mimic tang about 2 years ago.
I’ve tried the Kole tang , lasted a few months.
I’ve tried one other , the name I can’t recall.
Here is before ( months ago and not long after manually removing hair algae) and one photo tonight.

I’m convinced these may be the best cuc for hair algae. It cleared my son’s 55g in about 3 weeks. It’s now been in my tank for a few days, I’m hoping he’ll need it back after it’s done in my tank.

This way my favorite aquarium creature of all time. I can't recommend them enough, if you have tons of hair algae. Or have the patience to feed them

Update its well into the new year and the sea hare is still hanging in there.
I’m still feeding him half or a full sheet of nori everyday, rubber banded to a rock .
