A mushroom foot has a bunch of tendrils. I always assumed it was like a snail with a suction cup type of muscle. I wonder if nems are the same? It would explain how they are able to anchor themselves so well. I was clearing out some old live rock in the basement and found a baby of one of these.

I thought it was pretty cool. Each of those little threads grabbing a hold to keep it secured.
 
Yeah those look like mesenterial filaments to me as well. A stress response probably from being moved. He probably liked that spot and now hes grumpy.

The foot to me is like an extra appendage with a stronger attachment to things vs a snail
