I've had to put a freeze on buying any new fun stuff for my tanks- necessities only- because apparently I'm a grownup now and things around the house keep breaking. I lost a few hundred dollars worth of food when the chest freezer broke. I still don't have a small portable generator for power outages (can't even swing an affordable car battery/inverter). I still have a tree leaning over my power lines (which I can't do anything about until I get that generator...) that could wreak havoc with the next big ol' storm. My 20 year old car is acting like it won't last another year (which is sad, because Lafonda the Honda and I have been though a lot!). You know how it goes.

I need a side hustle! I only have a small handful of newbie corals, so I have no frags to sell. I am terrible at selling things and don't believe in MLMs, so hawking shakes, wraps, or oils on social media ain't going to work. Buying/selling gigs on Craigslist/FB Marketplace are saturated. I'm not pretty or desperate enough (yet) to be a lot lizard. I've been working as much overtime as allowed and have been selling my plasma though, which does help (I'd sell my eggs but there's no market for eggs from redheads! What?!). Still no black market leads for a kidney. How do y'all make money?? I'm not starving over here, but the amount of money I can save out of every paycheck is small enough that things could get ugly before I have enough dollars to cover some costs!

Probably not the most helpful answer but some people sell/trade frags to make the hobby a little more self sustained. But that requires investing in growing out frags in the first pla e

Sell your fishtank and quit the hobby.

Haha jk jk, maybe try picking up a second job (part time) or try uber/lyft you can rent a car from them i think it's like $200 you can pay that off by driving.

If you’ve got a good enough recipe for beef jerky it’s a huge side hustle. At one time a little over a year ago I was making 15 to 20 pounds a week (40ish lbs of raw beef). I sold it for $25 a pound and had the orders ahead of production.

I work at a beef slaughter house so I can get beef cheap with my employee discount. With saving any overtime worked and my side hustle I paid cash for my entire 120 gallon Planet Aquarium and all equipment.

Nearly everyday I have inquiries about when I’ll start making more jerky and my answer now is I just don’t have the time. Aquarium maint. is taking up my free time but I don’t mind!

Edit: no you can’t have my recipe

You could also try Door Dash or one of those kind of things as well. If you know enough and are comfortable with it, you could try offering some aquarium maintenance for people in the area.

Wow that tank looks amazing, looks like you have fake corals in there.

Yeah, they are from Instant Reef. I am doing fish only. Will have other things going on when my fish room is done. Putting up drywall Monday.
Ohh they are fake, couldn't tell. Nice to see you having the tank ready and not rushing it with the corals. Reef keeping needs patience and you my friend have that, good job man on not rushing it.

I work away from home 14/7 shift to afford to live. I honestly couldn’t afford to be in this hobby if I worked locally, let alone afford to live a “normal” life. (House, bills etc)

I make aquarium accessories lol. Combined my hobbies of 3d printing and reef tanks to make a nice side income

I wish! My only corals are very newbie-ish and not fraggable yet. :/

I'd be scared to. My city's not very big and, not to put too fine a point on it, there's a lot of sex offenders and meth heads in my area. I'm in one of the biggest meth-cooking areas in the country. I've thought about picking up a 2nd part time job, but it'll be hard to find hours when I work nights.

If your any good/fast atc typing, taking a dictation course or doing medical transcription online in your off time. It only pays well if your super fast with zero errors though

You seem to already know your market. Now you just need to cater to that and capitalize from it.

Oh and there are jobs, but it all depends on what you really went out of it. I used to work 5am-2pm doing displays in a department store (merchandising). Then from 4pm-10pm worked at best buy selling everything, lol. Lastly worked fill in for a custom picture framing weekend mornings before working for BB.... 80ish hours a week between the 3...

I do the same thing, selling plasma to earn extra cash. For me I had to pick which habits I wanted to keep and which ones I could cut back on. Hope everything turns around for ya.

Don't let your circumstances choose you. Choose your circumstances.
