If money is that tight, might I suggest saving $100 before buying anything else? You will inevitably need supplies as a new reefer and if you don't have all the test kits, equipment, etc that you need before you start, you're liable to be posting "Emergency" threads....
Thats what he's doing. Waiting for camp checks

Just to clarify, what the OP described before sounds like “life rock,” which is the name of a commercial product sold by CaribSea.

Live rock - Rock out of an aquarium, sump, or the ocean that is pre-populated with nitrifying bacteria and sometimes other life, maybe good, maybe bad.

Life rock - Purple rock that has no bacteria of any kind, but is supposedly embedded with bacterial spores of some kind that do…something? Details are sketchy. But hey, it’s nice rock.

Edit: If you’re looking to save money, get this: https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/caribsea-south-seas-base-rock-7-lbs-3858491
Bro thx sm for this link, so just to clarify I put those rocks in and then put in the bacteria and then wait a day and then buy the fish?

@~Torp~ how are things going?
Good I'm just waiting for a paycheck and imma buy the heater and rock and the bottle of bacteria. Then hopefully I have enough money to also buy the fish. I might just buy a goby for now if I can't afford a clownfish pair. Bc won't the waste from the goby help the bacteria I put in survive? I just want to get my tank established and then start adding stuff like the clownfish and corals

Yes, and the sand. Depending on how cool your room is, you might do it after you get the heater. The bacteria will multiply much faster in warmer temperatures. What sand are you using? If you’re buying it, most stores sell sand that already has bacteria in it which will help speed things along and keep your parameters more stable.
